Another ink study.

God these are gorgeous. Can I ask, do you do a pencil sketch first?

Yes - my usual method for anything involving ink outlines goes:
Do thumbnail sketch(es) - usually only for larger pieces and commissions.
Do a pencil sketch. Lightly.
Frown sternly at pencil sketch.
Redo problem parts of pencil sketch.
Repeat 3 and 4 as needed.
Ink outlines with brush pen. (I use a Pentel Pocketbrush.)
Go over the piece with a putty eraser to get rid of all the remaining pencil lines.
Shade or color in whatever medium.
(And thanks!)
